Take a look at my new website at https://www.pelletiercraftstudio.com

I am amazed at how many ways you can us an embossing folder. With that in mind, I thought I would show you some of my favorite ways to make embossing folder fun. My goal is that by the end of this blog, you can emboss like a pro too.

I was planning to do a video but Mother Nature and her frequent thunderstorms, lights out and internet down had other ideas. But we got this!!

1- Not all embossing folders are created equal. And making your sandwich correctly is important too.

Stampin Up has more than one kind of embossing folder. This chart give you information on both.

Embossing like a pro, means making your impression work without killing your arms. If you are having a tough time getting it to run through the Big Shot….. Stop! It is a tight fit but should not be really hard to turn.  With a standard textured impressions embossing folder you will use 2 cutting pads, one on each side of the folder. But when you are working with 3D dynamic textured impressions embossing folder you only need one. 3d is a thicker embossing folder and creates a deeper impressions.

Standard and 3D offer two sizes. One will fit a 6×6 card while the other fits a standard A4 (5 1/2 x 4 1/4). It will be necessary to make sure all to the material are inside the widest part of the Big Shot Platform. Otherwise, you will damage the sides of your embossing folder.

2- Emboss like a pro when you double emboss. (computer still running on battery) woo hoo

Recently I made this double embossed card using a technique I learned when I was experimenting with embossing with framelits or die cuts. I used the oval framelits and the stitched shaped framelits. View all Framelits/Die Cuts here

Double embossing can be done with 2 embossing folders, but I enjoy using die cuts and framelits to emboss.

Here is what it looked like when laid together.

To make this easier, be sure to use the Big Shot Embossing Mats.

The Big Shot Embossing Mats Order Embossing Mats Now  makes double embossing possible, and is a must when embossing with framelits or die cuts. This sandwich is made by using the standard platform, the framelits or die cuts with the cut facing up, your cards stock, the gray mat followed by the water plate that comes with the Big Shot Embossing Mats.  (I know the first several time I made this sandwich, I was sure it was going to cut my gray mat. I am thrilled to say it does wonderful.) Let’s take a look at what you should do next!

Using the oval layered die cuts, cut out 3 ovals from 3 pieces of chipped board. I have used the boards that come in Stampin UP designer series paper. I cut the boards to the same size of my card and cut the oval out in the same area I want the embossed area to be in. Here is what it looks like:

In this picture notice that the card board protects the previously embossed area done by the framelits.

Once you have your card board cut, keep it to use again in the future. As a final step, this is placed inside the Tufted embossing folder. Tufted is a 3D embossing folder would only use 1 cutting plate, once you have added this thick card board to the inside a second embossing plate will not run through the Big Shot. I used the replacement platform and the adapter, putting the embossing folder and card board in the center. Works like a charm.

Pictured here is the embossing folder with the card stock and card board inside.

Allow me to point out one more great feature of this embossing folder. Placing the card stock straight is often an issue. Not any longer as Stampin’ Up has placed a line at the bottom of the folder. Simple line up your card stock with the black line.

4- Embossing like a pro using foils:
